A correct installation is crucial. Minimize the open area around the plant and chose a Y –incision above an X- incision. It's important to close the mat carefully after planting and if necessary, to close the opening with one or two pins.

How do I avoid weed growth around the plants?
-
Which plants can I combine with BIOCOVERS®?
Shreds, bushes, trees, ground covers,… can be combined with BIOCOVERS®. (exception: annual plants and types that extend underground) -
Which type of pins should I use?
We recommend the use of U-shaped pins of 20x20x20 cm or 20x30x20 cm. U-shaped pins with a width of 10cm or less should be avoided. New planting schemes with loose soil can be vulnerable. When smaller pins are used, the risk exists that the fabric rips off. -
Why is it a bad idea to cover BIOCOVERS® with bark or wood chips?
BIOCOVERS® is UV stable; therefore it is not necessary to protect the fabric from sunlight. Wood chips and bark contain a high carbon/nitrogen ratio.

How does BIOCOVERS® look like after some years?
BIOCOVERS® blends in naturally in the landscape. After some years, it will be hard to even notice the fabric! Mosses will develop on top of the mat and work it into the ground. After some years, the fabric will lose its strength and small grasses will be able to grow through the mat. -
How long will BIOCOVERS® prevent weed growth?
BIOCOVERS® will block the light and prevent weed growth for 3-5 years. The exact lifetime depends on the temperature, humidity and the microorganism in the soil. The biodegradation will accelerate once the fabric is covered with organic material. -
Why is BIOCOVERS® more sustainable than natural fibre blankets (jute, hemp, coir, straw)?
Most natural fibre blankets are reinforced with synthetic elements: grids, nets, foils,… Moreover, the coir products are imported from the Far East, leading to a higher ecological footprint.

When should I buy BIOCOVERS® EXTRA?
We recommend the use of BIOCOVERS® EXTRA (= 200g/m²) for use on difficult and/or steep slopes. When maintenance is required on steep slopes, BIOCOVERS® MINI and MAXI (= 157g/m²) can be damaged during the maintenance activities leading to weaker zones in the fabric.
