Pins

We offer U-shaped pins of the dimension 20x30x20 cm. The use of U-shaped pins with a width of 10cm should be avoided. New installations on loose soils can be vulnerable during stormy weather. The fabric round these small pins could tear off!

What is PLA?

PLA or Poly Lactic Acid is made from plant material. Starch and sugars of plants are used as renewable resource. Today, mainly side and waste streams of the corn industry are used as feedstock. The production of PLA is not a threat for food supply; only 0.05% of the annual global corn crop is used for the production of PLA.

How is PLA produced? Some chemistry...

It all starts with the sun! During the process of the photosynthesis, leafs of green plants will absorb CO2 from the atmosphere. A molecule CO2 is combined with a molecule water to form sugar and oxygen. The molecule oxygen is released back in the atmosphere. The sugar is used as fuel for the plants. Any unused sugar is stored as starch and can be harvested.

Industrially, the starch molecules are converted to long chains of lactic acid molecules = PLA (Poly Lactic Acid). In our factories, the PLA granulate is transformed in a first step to fibres and in a second step to a needle punched nonwoven: BIOCOVERS®. Wind energy is used for the production of PLA fibres and felts!
